With artist Emma Faull

Monday 27th April to Monday 4th May 2026

£1420 per person

Develop your painting skills in the warm spring sun with one of the great water colourists of today

Join us on another of our painting weeks on the beautiful, unspoilt island of Zakynthos. This is a wonderful opportunity to put the winter blues behind you, enjoy the sun, clear blue Ionian sea, open skies and views from the villa of olive and cypress trees, wild flowers and vast panoramic vistas from Cephalonia to a distant view of main land Greece. Enjoy the delicious island food and wine, eating in the open air, under a spring sun.   Emma Faull, one of today’s great water colour painters, and knowledgeable ornithologist, will join us and share her enthusiasm, knowledge and skills.

Emma Faull

Emma was educated at St Hilda’s, Oxford, and then spent five years with the British School of Archaeology in Athens as a draughtsman. During her time there she wrote “The Imagery of Birds in Ancient Greece”. She has painted for Wedgewood and illustrated a book entitled ‘Endangered Birds of the World’. Her most recent shows were in the Rountree Tryon Gallery in London and on Petworth. Emma is a talented watercolour painter of birds, particularly endangered species. She has exhibited worldwide with over 27 plus solo shows to her credit. Emma’s paintings are held in many permanent collections, including the prestigious Audubon Society in USA, the National Museum of Athens and over a dozen in the collection of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Heads of the Commonwealth and the Royal household, amongst others, have commissioned work from her. Using her wealth of knowledge, Emma is going to show us how to paint in watercolour, pen-and-ink, and other media. She is especially keen to explore and paint the landscapes and architecture of the hillside villages, farms and monasteries, and the unspoilt natural surroundings of this beautiful island.

Essentials

Included in the price is breakfast of Greek yoghurt, fruit, local breads eggs and bacon, plus one other meal a day, with wine, beer and soft drinks, tea, coffee and fresh fruit. For lunch or supper we visit a variety of local restaurants (allow approximately €30 per day) on the beach, on escarpments overlooking the sea, or in the hill villages. The five bedrooms have twin beds and ensuite bathrooms. If you would like a double bed these can be linked together to make a huge double. There is a single supplement of £550 if you would like a room on your own; so you may think it worthwhile to share. We will suggest which flights to book (see below) and will arrange collection from the airport. We will arrange for hire cars (typically €25 per car per day plus petrol) to be shared amongst everyone on the course.  You will be advised about the cost of these nearer the time, depending on the number needed, but it is considerably cheaper than taxis, and more flexible than a minibus.

Emma will teach in the morning, plus another session after lunch (either afternoon or early evening). She will issue a list of equipment in advance of the trip, but we will use watercolour as the main medium.

If a non painting partner wishes to accompany you, they would be very welcome. There is ample opportunity to explore the island with its ravishing coast, olive groves, wild flower meadows and picturesque hill villages.

A £320 non-refundable deposit is requested when booking

Please remember you are responsible for your own flights and insurance. If the course is cancelled for whatever reason your deposit and the balance paid will be reimbursed.

The flights we propose to use again this year are the EasyJet flights from Gatwick to Zakynthos and return. It is helpful if everyone books on the same flight and avoids an expensive extra taxi cost:

  • Outbound to Zakynthos 11:40am, 27 Apr 26, EZY8205

  • Inbound to London Gatwick 18:00, 4 May 26, EZY8206
